On a similar point to the last one - who uses Twitter? Why? What do you do with it? Is it for business or fun or both?

    Hi Mark

I use Twitter for business mainly and for social networking, preferring to follow businesses who have helped me and are tweeting about my area of interest.

The number of social bookmarking links I see on Clicky is increasing steadily as well, showing that the tweets are getting retweeted to other groups of users, increasing following and ultimately feeding my forum

I use Twitter as a medium between a number of forums and networks, and have Tweetdeck as my twittering platform

Used wisely twitter can be more effective than a blog but should feed other information sources. Ideally you should stick to a niche that you become known in.

    Hope this helps

How do you find Tweetdeck? I've looked at it a few times but have a funny feeling I'd find it a distraction - one more thing to keep an eye on ...

As it is I pop in and out of Twitter a few times a day.

Yep, I have two Twitter accounts, one for each company and tweeting different things.

I automate much of the content so it is tweeting away all day without me needing to do anything.

I use Betwittered iGoogle plugin but mainly take a peep a few times a day using Twitterrific on my iPhone.

How do you automate it Wecando?

Tweetdeck is great, not intrusive, just minimise and rely on the little popup to show and then disappear when new tweets detected - you can set the refresh rate as well

    Now following you too Helen.
    Great products !!

I use Twitterfeed which enables you to take any number of RSS feeds and tweet them automatically. I tweet all Biz Needs from our members by a RSS feed routed this way.

It's also worth having a ShareThis button on your browser toolbar so it is a 10 second job to post interesting articles you read/comment on through Twitter.

I'm running a course on all this. Details here.

I've heard of Twitter but not really sure what it is - or what benefit it has. Can someone explain?

Here's the simplest explanation I can find - Twitter in plain English [video]

I personally use twitter to keep an eye out for useful and interesting links that others point out. It's also useful for a bit of networking and keeping up to date with what other people I know are doing (events, meetups ...)

Still a Twitter novice though so my suggestion would be to get started and have a play around with it.

Do people think there is a real business benefit of 'twittering'?

haven't come across twitter is it any good and what's the purpose, i have used linkedin but don't find much business use for it.

It can be good for business, but of course you need to network to get following the right people. Just follow the people you know and you'll have to fight through the usual updates on how much coffee they have drunk and what the children are doing at school.

We post Biz Needs sales leads through ours, as well as links to articles about other business focused social networking and social media sites and tools.

I also follow about 150 people who provide useful staff I pass on. But as said, a lot of our stuff can be automated so we do that. I would suggest it is the least anyone does for their blog updates etc.

Basically the opportunities I work with are going to be almost all social networking type contacts from 1st December this year.

    Especially my Gem Island business

    http://www.gemislander.com

I like it because the posts I make go across to my Facebook account.

And the fact I can post to it by mobile text message is handy if out and about.:001_smile:

There is something that enables you to speak Tweets too. Don't remember what it's called though.

Twitter, like all social networking is about balance and the ability to be interesting. It's only useful if you can persuade lots of people to follow you and you can only do that by providing information that people want to read (or by having millions of friends).

The trick is not to tweet about business all the time - say the odd frivolous thing and then when the time is right hit 'em with a link to a new offer you're running or an interesting blog you've just posted etc

I recently checked the standard twitter on my computer rather than using twitterfon on my iPhone like I normally do. And rather than saying that I twittered from twitterfon is said that they were sent from the " web".

twitter is the best top ranking social networking site . it is used to tweet your ideas and business concerns services can tweet too.
  18. We use twitter. It for both individuals and business. It can be useful just have to realise that your main business isn't going to come from twitter though it can help drive some business if used correctly.

Using Tweet deck can make life a little easier as your tweets can be automate so that you don't have to actually spend a lot of time updating it yourself. Must say that the pop ups on the screen from Tweet Deck can be a little bit distracting at the best of times.
