Problems obtaining merchant services

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice, hopefully someone can help!

I have a business account with RBS and I recently applied for a card terminal through them, they submitted the application to Streamline and it was declined due to 'checks at the Credit Reference Agency indicate that there is information held relating to you or your associate(s), which has contributed to our decision'

I have since applied for Paypal Merchant services and have been declined for a similar reason.

I have read on this site that is you are an FSB member then they can submit applications for you even if you have credit problems but I see that they use Streamline also so would I be wasting my time to try this?

Is there any other way of obtaining these Merchant Services through another provider that is more lenient?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks, Dave

    Dave,

the FSB does get you preferential rates with Streamline, but I do not think an account is guaranteed.

I have an account with NoChex, which isn't bad, but they do like to hold onto some of your money for a while - maybe give them a try!

What exactly are you after - a terminal, online gateway etc?

Thanks for the reply, I would ideally like a terminal but a virtual terminal would suffice.

Are nochex quite lenient then ?

That I have seen, the people who complain about them do not read the terms - they set a witholding figure, based on your business, with if help for several weeks to cover chargebacks. After this time, you can get the money.

Sure, it isn't Payp[al, but I do not have issues!!

Hi Dave, I only just came across your messages / question. Are you now sorted out for payments?

Leave a message and I can get back to you.

    Kind regards,
    - Peter (I work for Nochex)

P.S. What kind of business are you in? It is extremely hard nowadays to open merchant accounts in the UK especially for electronic goods.

Sometimes it is best to "re-think" which company jurisdiction you should use...

I sell used car parts, currently I sell through ebay which doesn't really need the facility to take card payments, I also sell via Parts Gateway and this is where the need for card facilities is greatest.

Do you sell through a company or as a person?
