Hello, I am looking for a telephone service provider that is not VOIP. I need PBX type facility. Can you tell me who you are using. Would you recommend them? Who should I avoid! A bonus would be an unlimited UK calls package. I have used BT Versatility in the past. I need to take a decision by tomorrow. Thanks.

Thanks for a very thorough respone. My knowledge on phone systems is limited. With that device from maplin - what would I need to be able to recieve and make several inbound or outbound calls at once?
You will need to have 2 incoming lines provided by BT or your Telephone service provider, and then you can have upto 6 internal phones, you will be able to dial out with 2 at anyone time. Basically you connect the PBX box to your two incoming lines and then you run extensions (6 of them) from the box to whatever room you want :thumbup1: As all the phones and the box belong to you all you pay are for the 2 incoming line rentals. Saves you £££'s in rental charges if you move - take it with you !! View the user guide below (attached PDF)
Thanks. I will seriously consider that. Out of interest - have you heard of the BT FeatureLine service? Do you know if it allows several incoming and/or outgoing calls at once? Doesn't say anything about that one their site.
When you say several incoming/outgoing calls you are rescrited to the amount of phone lines you have, If you have 2 lines then you will only be able to use 2 at anyone time, if you have 10 incoming lines you will be able to make/recieave 10 calls at once, see what i mean?? Everything you can get with BT featureline you can do with that Maplin system http://www.productsupport.bt.com/featureline/fqs1.htm You need to remember the more lines you have the more line rental you will pay
OK. I saw this one on maplin that handles 4 lines at once: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?moduleno=353325 Sorry to be a pain. So, all I need is a business telephone line from BT that has 4 lines on one number. Or should I just order four independent BT lines and just connect it to this box. I need people to be able to dial one number and for all the phones to ring.
You can have 1 number and upto 4 people will be able to call at once (4 lines) :thumbup1: Don't order 4 new numbers as the line rental will cripple you. Just seen that one at maplin, its not a bad price for what it can do :thumbup1: for more details on BT lines etc see here http://business.bt.com/phone-services/phone-lines-and-calling-plans/phone-line/faqs
To make 4 simultaneous calls using traditional telephony, you need 4 exchange lines or 2x2 ISDN lines. I really recommend that you do not make a decision before you know what you need - you will inevitably get it wrong and commit to a lengthy contract. btw why not VoIP?
Hello CJD. I am currently a Voipfone customer. I just got three Snom300's delivered yesterday. Although your guys have been helpful, I am getting a lot of cracking. Your tech support has been helpful so far, however, I have now decided to return the phones and get a refund. I would rather not move - if I didn't have to. I don't really have anything bad to say about your company so far, I just hope the return process is as smooth as the purchase process. I know it works fine for some, it just didn't work well for me.
Unusual issue and you seem to have given up a very quickly for a tech company! Anyway, the returns process is simple.
Morning Ryann, More than willing to impart advice where needed when it comes to telephone system/line options. The most important thing is making sure that if you are going to make any investment it's worth it in the long run. No point in investing in a switch with a low capacity if your business is likely to grow, you'll be paying out again otherwise. As for featureline, immidiate advice is be careful of contractual periods with BT. Have had several customers who used this day one, when looking to upgrade to a system they were then stung with high charges from BT to remove the service then BT would also re-start a new 2 year contract for the existing lines with Featureline service. By all means PM me if you'd like to have a chat, advice doesn't cost a penny, making the wrong decision will!
I have tried to be patient, if you could get it working properly with the Snom then I would have prefererred to use them. We are still staying with Voipfone - but we will use the Zoiper - for a strange reason we get better line quality with that. But we are also getting what Puched suggested earlier.
The crackling problems you describe are nothing to do with voip, it is either your internal set-up or your broadband, it is most not definitely voip. I have been with voipfone for over 2 years and the only time we had problems, it was cause we have a cr*p Bt line, so adsl is out, we are now on cable and everything is rosey.
Yoou are talking DSL...you need to know the distance of the loop length...which is the distance from the telephone office to your house and back again. I jumped through all sorts of burning hoops to figure out why my DSL was so erratice. The phone company told me my wiring, my computer, and then after weeks and many phone calls they told me I was too far from their office. I went with cable broadband and no problems.
