    hi im new here,
basically ive been a chef for 20 odd years,
my idea is to get a new job for 2 days a week (so i have regular money coming in for bills etc),
the rest of my time i want to make homemade desserts and sell them to local pubs, restaurants,
i know the quality of my work so i dont doubt that side of it. i also know what people pay for desserts from wholesalers so can easily provide them cheaper, therefore a better selling margin for the publican,
could i please have any comments or advice from anyone on this. good or bad
    thanks
    phil

You will need to have your kitchen inspected and approved by environmental health. Check what standards are required by getting in touch with your local inspector before you start anything so you don't run into problems later.
  3. Have you done you research? Suggest that you use the connections that you have, network as much as possible. Establish good relationship with the businesses that you are targeting, see if there is added value by you providing your desserts and if they are willing to actually change they way they currently do desserts if they are already offering them on their menu.

Delivering home made desserts is not a bad idea at all and being a chef for 20 odd years I think you will know the industry better than us. On your 2 days a week you could have a look around at the restaurants you deliver they might be able to have you look after their kitchen matters or do some administration in the kitchen.

Try getting some good solid commitment before you sink money into this, or at least before you make your first trifle.

But if you can do this in your own kitchen, then you have a low overhead business, i'm in favour of that !

Personally I think this is a great idea. You obviously have great business sense!! It allows for stability and gives you enough time to do what you love. My advice is go for it and if it doesn't work out you can always get another job. Good luck eh!!
