Hi, I am interested in learning how to connect to KashFlow, but I am a total noob in this area. I do have programming skills in HTML/CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, XML, VB (excel macros). What I want to do is connect a programs MS Access database to Kash Flow I have done some reading on this, and as far as I'm aware the SOAP API is basically sending XML data via HTTP within a envelope containing a header, body and fault. So this is how I understand it: Extract the data I need from the access database, The XML data gets put into SOAP format, It gets sent over HTTP and hey presto KF has the data But where I fall is how the heck do I create the feed so its automatic from access to KF? Is there anything else I need to understand, or do i need to change my mindset? Any links to articles I can read, or advice on the best place to start is very much appreciated? Regards Paul
Hi Paul, I (think I) have heard about direct connections to web services (SOAP APIs) in version of Access, but I know nothing about it. That would be your best route if I didn't imagine it. IF not, you need to program some middle-ware to loop through your data in Access and post it to our API. PHP can do it, ASP.NET would be easier though.
Getting my head round it now. Do I really need to use Content-Length? It's all going to be behind the scene stuff I want to do.
The only time I can think that you'd need content length in .Net would be if you're hand coding the request. I don't see why you'd need to do that with our API.
Sorry for the totally none understanding of all this, but I really want to learn. Just need to make sure I am not wasting my time learning stuff I shouldn't To make a link from an access database to your web app I need to create a program that runs in the back ground that extracts the data I need to create the XML file to import into to the SOAP.API As far as i know, using Microsoft Visual Studio will do the job, but I have come across a program call Altova, would this do aswell? Once again i apologise for my dumbness and miss understanding, but i am hoping to get my head around all this so i can sit down and read up on all the information needed to achieve on what i want to do. Why are you trying to do this? There might be a better solution. I've never heard of Altova. If Visual Studio will do the job, don't get distracted by something that might not.
