SEO is the only way to ensure long-term results. By having all the factorsincluded on your site before you embark on SEO, you will ensure that you get results. PPC has been proven to be open to abuse, and when talking to customers about it, they all say they will not use the sponsored links andsome have clicking on sponsored links in the knowledge that it costs moneyadvertiser.

1 thing to remember is that increasing traffic is fairly easy (after all this is just links and getting people to click), getting traffic that is interested in your site and is likely to buy / sign up for anything is another story.

You can try do-follow forum posting, blog commenting, article submission, bookmarking, directory submission etc to increase web traffics for you site.

  7. Do you think that forums are as important in relation to SEO as a lot of the forums are becoming do not follow? Of course you can use forums to build reputation.

I suppose you can write in yahoo ASK to ask "Does my website look nice?" and provide a link ... Many people are very helpful and will go to you site...
  9. Not sure how successful that approach is really going to be. It might give some click throughs and some feedback but in terms on generating much traffic then that is a different story.

Self promotion/advertising does take incredible amount of free time and patience, so it depends how much of it you can or wish to waste before your website/business starts attracting potential clients.

Being No.1 on google does not directly translates to "more clients = more money". Yes, it will definitely attract more people visiting your website, most of whom will be complete time-wasters, and you will spend most of your time just replying silly enquires.

You need careful planning, so start from the beginning, take pen & paper and write your: -

    Advertising plan.

What to advertise? (services, physical goods etc)
Where to advertise? (webs forums, web directories, newspapers, magazines, yellow pages, flyers - in my opinion total waste of time & money , email - try not to have yourself marked as SPAM)
Who can help you and how much you need ? (time & money, DIY or someone who can do the boring bit...perhaps you need a sales person etc etc)
If yourself, then "How much time will it take you?"
If you want someone else to do it - How much money can you spend?
    etc
Now you can start wring what of the above you already done and why it did or it did not work.

P.S. Many of our existing clients came from listing sites e.g. business directories. Reason - they knew what they were looking for. Not just google "find-me-something-with-xxx-word-combination".
