If you have a "Fun Page" and it's a well managed/active page it might rank well on Google bringing new traffic to your site (potentially) - that's my experience.

Will on behalf of Linked in again here.

For those of you that use Twitter and Linked In you may be interested to know that you can now synchronise your accounts so that your status updates are seen on both platforms in real time thus increasing your online visibility. The partnership enables users to automatically share their LinkedIn updates with their Twitter followers via a new Tweets app on their LinkedIn homepage. The deal works the other way as well, allowing users to share Twitter posts with their LinkedIn network by adding the ‘in' hashtag to tweets on the microblogging site.

Finally, a quick reminder that the first ever LinkedIn European Business Awards are taking place next year and we are still taking nominations for individual awards as well as the best business award. Please see my previous post for more details.

    Kind regards,
    Will

    Again,

As a lot have pointed out, it really depends on your product/service.

I have been in charge of a fan page for a while now on a product that in it's nature isn't that sociable. However, I have been pleasantly surprised how engaging the fans have been and how much conversation we have.

A little insight - people are spending on average approximately 5hrs a month on Facebook compared to aproximately 1.5hrs a month on Google.

Generally speaking, go where your audience are. Don't underestimate how passionate people can be about ANYTHING. Therefore setting up a fan page could bring some surprises.

Why not use it as a form of a customer service channel?

Did you create a Group or a Fan Page? Active Fan Pages show up in search results.. I also fan pages give you more flexibility - check it out. I think Facebook is a good tool for business. I wouldn't spend too much time on it, but I wouldn't ignore it either.

    Cheers

You are best to have a personal account and a business account. Use the personal account to add new friends and mutual friends. Make sure you have links to your main business page for them to follow. If you need some advice on using facebook then youtube has to been the place to go, as people have put training videos on there.

If you start a twitter account then you can setup a feed from your facebook page which will always update your twitter page.

    Good luck

I would agree with the majority of posters, that twitter is a great tool for business. I have made some great contacts using twitter and gained pet sitters to boot

I don't think Facebook will ever shake-off the 'primarily social' aspect.

You can only suggest it to your friends...to promote it further you could do some facebook advertising.

Well since this thread is 3 years old, what is happening now is Facebook is one of the best place to advertise your products or services.
